The folk high school consists of many things besides classes. It is a condition in the high school law that a stay at the school is also about being together. We have systemised parts of this.

Pnyx/ democracy
Pnyx was a place in which the ancient Greeks gathered to decide on common matters. We have adapted the name mainly because it is a bit strange. We arrange among other things house pnyx and common pnyx.
We have a democratic ambition. As a student, we hope that you will experience first hand that it is worth while thrashing out solutions that benefits the majority and considers the few. You should also experience that your opinion is valued and that things happen when you take an active part.
If students are willing to take on responsibility, they have great influence on things.

Midday assembly
Another expression which is a natural part of our language. At 11.50 we all get together. This is when joint information is given, and there is also time for a song and/or an anecdote before lunch a 12.00.

Rules
Even though the school is characterised by mostly functioning without rules, there are still some.

First of all we must always treat each other with respect.
We insist that you take part in all classes and in the common practical tasks occurring.
We strongly oppose to any use of euphoriants. If it is found amongst our students we will deal with it.
Our alcohol policy allows alcohol consumption during some weekends. This presupposes that students have a mature relationship with alcohol. Alcohol can be bought at the school at cost price. We do not, however, accept a “plastic bag culture” or alcohol in the rooms.

Meals
On the five weekdays we have the three main meals together. Besides this, fruit, bread, coffee and tea are being served in mornings, afternoons and evenings.

The food is being cooked by educated staff and is both healthy and varied. At the same time we are well aware of what is appreciated by most young people. We want to offer you the chance to eat healthy food, and we believe that doing so is an important part of functioning well.
The kitchen and dining room are natural places to call during free time and when helping out, and the members of the kitchen staff enjoy having a chat with whoever stops by.

During weekends we have a different arrangement. Brunch are being served late in the morning, and there will be supper in the evening. Besides this, fruit, bread, coffee and tea are being served in the afternoon and evening.

High School Evenings
High school evenings are being arranged quite often. This means that everybody gets together to do something. This can be anything from song evenings to various contests. The different student houses arrange the high school evenings and plan its contents.

Culture committee
We try to take advantage of the many options offered by the city of Århus. A committee, consisting of a couple of members of staff and some students, has its own budget. Whether or not that means going to the theatre, concerts, lectures or other things, is decided by the committee.

School trip
On every semester we will go on a one-week trip.
In autumn, we normally go to experience something Denmark does not offer, such as the combination of big city and wilderness.
In spring, our tradition is going on a skiing trip to the Alps.
These trips are included in the school fees.

Core subject
Students can choose their subjects in all subject areas, depending on their interests.

However, once a week an obligatory core subject takes place. This will deal with a subject which, to the best of our knowledge, interests young people, or which be believe there is reason to have a closer look at.
